My Story
Jessica MichieShare
My parents had seven children and my Pappy hoped he'd have seven little fly fishers. He did luck out with a few and he and I have traveled all over fly fishing. Pappy helped plant the seed, but the browns and cutthroats of the West and brook trout of Virginia watered the obsession.
I started Ladyfish Fly Fishing to make fly fishing more accessible and approachable for women. With homebase in Virginia, we host women-only beginner classes, women’s retreats all over the country, elevated "catch and keep" trout dinners, community outreach events, and my personal favorite—the Young Anglers Academy, getting kids of all ages out on the water. In partnership with Wesley Hodges Fly Fishing and Bird Hunting, we’ve built a clear path for continued education in the sport for everyone.
My hope is that everyone who joins a Ladyfish class or event leaves with confidence, curiosity, and a deeper connection to the water. To me, fly fishing is about more than the fish—it’s about the places they live, the people you meet, and the peace you find in between.
